Butterfly Squad creative team inspiration: Jane

Hello lovely Butterflies!

It is Jane here and I am so pleased to be able to share with you my first blog project as part of the Butterfly Squad creative team. I wanted to create something that would give me the opportunity to use lots of fab France Papillon products but also be useful for my work with the team, so I decided to make and decorate a notebook.

After creating a cover using mount board I prepared the surface with white gesso and then painted it with white crackle paint from DecoArt.

The next stage resulted in a bit of an oops moment! Once the crackles had formed on the cover I used Decoart fluid acrylic paint in washes by adding lots of water. I started with Cobalt Teal Hue, then Diarylide Yellow and finally Quinacridone Magenta. Unfortunately I added so much water that the spine of the notebook split but I didn’t want to waste what had been done so stuck it back together with duct tape then used ribbon around the spine.

Using archival inkpads I added some stamping details using 3 different stamps from the ‘London New York’ set.

I wanted to add a little more texture so mixed some of the Decoart white modelling paste with a couple of drops of diarylide yellow. This was then spread through parts of the smaller rusted rivets stencil.

As I wanted the notebook to be bright and fun I decided to use one of the characters from ‘Auntie Margot and Co’ along with the wings of the fly from ‘Creepers and Crawlers’. The parts I needed were stamped and cut out from white card then coloured using the same paints that were used before. To add a bit of extra gloss I painted parts of the images using the triple thick gloss glaze. I chose a fun sentiment from the ‘Perfect Words’ set which was then mounted onto some cambric coloured with the cobalt teal hue acrylic.

Once it had all been put together I felt that something extra was needed so stamped out the hearts from ‘Perfect Words’ to add a little extra detail.

I am really looking forward to using my notebook and planning lots more projects!

Thank you for looking and see you again soon, happy crafting!

Jane xx
