Butterfly Squad creative team inspiration: Melina

Hello everyone!

It´s Melina here today sharing an art journal page with step-by-step photos.

When you decide to do something, there is always a DAY ONE, right?

I have promised myself to listen more to my heart and less to my head when making art, and not to care so much what others might think about it...

This page surprised me! I had a vague idea where I wanted to go, but it turned out totally different. And that is fine with me! That means that I followed my feelings and not my mind. And now I have to not think so much about if others will like it or not...

Here´s what I did:

I stamped with different stamps from Illusionary Artists stamp sets Rock n´Rust and Perfect Words using Smokey Gray Versafine ink.

I added colour using DecoArt Fluid acrylics. I diluted them with water and also spray my paper with water to get them to spread nicely.

I go in with Quinacridone Gold fluid acrylic through France´s Crackled stencil for my next layer.

First I made some white splatters in the middle of my page, but here is where my page turnes in a different direction. I want to go darker instead, so I put down a layer of diluted Raw umber in the center.

And, now I go even darker... I applied black fluid acrylic paint with my palette knife to get the grungy, uneven look.

I took my white Posca pen and did some journaling and doodling. I stamped the bee from the Creepers and Crawlers stamp set once on my page to get the details, and once on a scrap piece of paper. I cut out the body and wings of the bee, and coloured the body with Quinacridone Gold. I applied DecoArt triple thick gloss glaze to the body and let it dry.

I have some pink smudged on the page from before. I decide to try to incorporate that by adding some more pink. I blended red and white fluid acrylics and diluted it with a lot of water. I painted the wings with this really soft pink colour, and also made some splatters on the page.

I stamped the quote and heat embossed it using white embossing powder onto black cardstock. As a final touch I added Wink of Stella glitter on the wings.

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

See you soon again, hugs

Melina
