Butterfly Squad creative team inspiration: Veerle

Hi butterflies,

it’s my turn to share some inspiration today and I’m going for a lot of color instead of the usual projects where I leave some white space.

To start today’s project I’m creating some texture on my background. I’ve cut up some cambric and glued it down using the DecoArt matte medium. I decided it needed something extra so I added some strings of thread. When everything was dry I added a layer of gesso.

Once my layer of gesso is dry it’s time to start playing with color. First layer is some DecoArt chalky finish Victorian. To break it up a bit I added the color Artéfact and kept playing with both colors until I was happy. When all the layers dried I decided to cover it all up with black antiquing cream. I love my white space but in projects like this I do need some black…

After removing most of the antiquing cream I added a bit more black around my cambric and also on my edges. Next step is adding a tiny bit of shimmer. So I stamped the middle heart from the Perfect Words set with some glue and covered it with silver metal foil. I also added tiny details of this metal foil on the string in my background.

I felt like adding the butterfly from the Creepers and crawlers set so I stamped it on thick white parchment paper using white embossingpowder.

All my project needs now is a word and I chose this ‘Carpe Diem’ from the Perfect Words set.

Thank you for stopping by. Carpe diem!

Lots of love,

Veerle
