A layer a day - A spread a week: week 11

Hello sweet Butterflies,

How is your A layer a day challenge going so far? What are you enjoying most? What could go better? Tell me all about it before diving into a brand new topic!

In case this is the first time you read about the challenge, check out the first blog post on the subject here, where we explain what it is all about.

You can join the fun at any time on the France Papillon and Creative Butterflies facebook group, where lots of alad spreads and in between layers get shared, which will definitely help your mojo to be inspired!

week 11

Back to basics

After the first 10 weeks of our challenge (10! Already? Where did the time go!) I think it's time to settle down for a moment and take a deep breath. If you haven't already, try to answer the questions I started this post with, I'm sure it will get you centered again if needed, boosted even more if possible and ready to start journaling on a brand new white page.

This week, after our little reflection, I want to invite you to go back to basics. I'm a firm believer that it helps to look back at basic techniques, ideas, inspirations and wordings, to start fresh and empowered to build our journaling even further.

What were the very first techniques you started with that really resonated with you? Was it textures, like for me? Or a combination of shapes and colors that expressed exactly what you wanted to say? Which were the very first products you were attracted to? Are you still using them? If not, how about giving them a change again? With the product knowledge and new techniques you have developed over time, going back to those products can give you a complete new twist on how to use them. Give it a shot!

What is the message that keeps coming back to you in your journal or in real life? Why do you think that is? How about going back to the very source of those emotions and feelings and giving them some attention? It always helps to clear our mind when we deal with unfinished business, being it practical stuff or... emotions!

This week, I'm planning on going back to some very basic techniques, like applying modeling paste over cambric as a stencil. That was something I used to do a lot and haven't done for ages! I will also give the color combo green - purple - orange a chance again. Can you even remember this was one time my go to combo? I bet you don't ;)))

And I will also give a little space in my journal to a dream that keeps coming back about my mom. It's been two years now since she passed away and I think I need to keep that in mind while journaling for that dream to settle down. Art journaling is a therapy and there's no point denying it, on the contrary!

There will be a video of my process for you here next week.

Meanwhile, go! Go and journal your heart out!

But only for 5 minutes a day ;)

Veerle's tag for her Broken challenge from last week is so delicate yet very striking. She really knows how to make subtil accents give meaning to the whole piece!
